Step into a far away land of mystery, magic and intrigue, as exotic as tales of the Arabian Nights but as tangible and immediate as the evening news or the sights, sounds and smells you experience in walking through a foreign city street for the first time.
Set in a fantasy world modeled after 10th century Central Asia, the story follows little Jesipam as she encounters the many competing cultures and value systems of the region, trying to find a safe home for herself and her younger sister.
Though, like many fantasy novels, the book centers on a troubled young protagonist with a destiny save her people, it doesn’t conform to the usual fantasy quest mold. “To Color the Wind -The Wolf Head Amulet” draws readers into its plot with richly drawn characters and a sense of reality that is rare in the fantasy genre.
This is a book to be enjoyed equally by readers who love fantasy, readers who love beautifully turned descriptions and striking human insights, and those who love lose themselves in accounts of travels in far way lands.
The Wolf Head Amulet To Color The Wind Book 1 eBook Barbara Glynn
Barbara Glynn creates a rich and varied fantasy world in this trilogy. "Dune" meets the Middle Ages in this intricate story where people send missives in "thread" tubes and magic is a gift of the few that must be carefully honed or create grave consequences. The heroine is fabulous: smart, clever, hard-working and true to herself. Always wily, she gets herself and her sister out of scrapes that would be daunting even to adults. Cliff hangers at the end of chapters-a real page turner. As an adult reader I found it hard to put down and whipped right through all three, but I think they would be perfect for junior high audiences and especially inspiring to girls. Great read.Product details

The Wolf Head Amulet To Color The Wind Book 1 eBook Barbara Glynn Reviews
This book takes one on a fantasy journey into the life of a young girl and her growing up amidst difficult times. It is very "visual" reading and very fun to read. If you like fantasy and adventure, this book will not disappoint you.
I enjoyed the adorable characters and the well-thought out fantasy world that Glynn created in this book. The pace of the story is a little slow, but I continued reading to find out what will happen to the main characters. The first book could use a little more narrative climax, but perhaps this could be found in the next book in the series.
I loved all 3 of the books in this series. They tell a compelling story set in an exotic country in the Middle Ages about a girl born into the aristocracy who must flee her country and in the process discovers her as yet untapped magic and power. Glynn's seemingly boundless creativity weaves an ingenious web of color, language, and magic that is endlessly fascinating as it evolves. Her story is alive with intrigue, action, love, rebellion, and the very real coming of age of a powerful young woman. Glynn's prose is readable and beautiful, evoking a world I was thrilled to be swept into as I read.
A great read all the way!
This story drew me into another world and kept me reading through all three books. I found the whole story delightful and totally involving. The characters are well defined and pop off the page as we get to know them. They have all of the good and bad habits that are inside all of us, with the prejudices, stupidity and meanness that is so believable and irritating that you just want to reach into the page and shake them. This fantasy environment is close to what we can imagine from history but with a twist, the differences and places are described so that I can see the walls of the castles and tunnels and hear the children sing their songs. We meet our heroine when she is six or seven as she faces the hardship of taking care of her baby sister in a world that doesn't want her and we travel with her as she learns to use the "magic" that she controls. I loved this story and did not want it to end or to have to leave the world that the author had created for me. I hope that there are more books from her that I can discover and enjoy.
