The loss of a son...the memory of a daughter. A search for peace that spans two continents. Mei, a Chinese mother, loses her son in a tragic earthquake, awakening the memory of the daughter she relinquished to adoption years before. China’s One Child Policy robbed her of the infant she called Pearl, and Mei is haunted by loss. The couple learns to survive, finally emigrating to America where Mei sees little Chinese girls everywhere. Could that one be Pearl? Mei's search leads her to a peace she never knew existed. Will she find Pearl? And can she let her go?

Pearl is the story of a mother's love for her son, a husband's love for his wife, and God's great big love for us. After the Sichuan earthquake of 2008, one family finds out what life looks like after the death of their only son. Laura Lee Groves plants readers in the lives of Mei and Chao and allows us a glimpse at their loss while weaving in thoughts on adoption and hope.I found Chapter 6 especially touching when the author discussed Chinese women clustered on the sidewalk each hoping for a glimpse of their child.

Pearl Laura Lee Groves 9781482784503 Books Reviews
Pearl started out as a book I thought would be a 5 star rating. It fizzled out about 3/4 of the way through and the ending completely died.
As a Mom who has three adopted children I found it very touching. The ending was unexpected. I can't wait until Pearl 2.
Mr. Groves is an outstanding author and really captivates your attention in the book and keeps the pages turning. One of my favorite books of all time! Definitely a great story line and a good message with it.
Enjoyed reading this book and felt like I really knew the characters. It was interesting reading about adoption from a different perspective. It kept my attention and was the perfect length for me to read on a recent weekend trip. I would recommend this book.
This is an excellent fiction story based on the Chinese One Child Policy and the devastating earthquake from several years ago. The love of God really shines through this book as the characters learn where true peace comes from. Believable characters with some very happy, poignant moments as well as very sad situations. I highly recommend this!!
This is a very well written story that touches your heart. The author does an excellent job of making you feel connected to the characters.
Pearl is a compelling story that will touch your heart. Set in China, Laura Groves brings the reader right into a world unknown to many of us. When i finished this well written story, my heart filled with compassion and empathy for parents who have to make hard, unimaginable decisions and I am awed at the depth of mother's love. This is a wonderful book that will take you on a journey you will enjoy.
